Q Weight Management: In this chapter you are learning about energy balance and weight management. Throughout this course, you have heard about the current health status of Americans. "The prevalence of obesity has increased dramatically in the United States since the mid-1970s. More than one-third of adults (over 72 million people) and 17 percent of children are obese" - USDA.gov. The reality is we did not get here overnight. The American health status is a combination of numerous factors, including diet, disproportionate serving sizes, the environment in which we were raised and how we view food. What to do: Read the updated Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans Actions and NPR's article, "Biology's A B*tch: 5 Reasons Why It's So Hard To Keep Weight Off (Links to an external site.)." Watch the video "Eating More to Weigh Less." (5 min.) Useful Canvas Help pages on; How do I reply to a discussion as a student? (Links to an external site.) How do I view the rubric for my graded discussion? In your initial post, answer the following questions (number your responses based on the questions); 1. What is the purpose of the Physical Activity Guideline? Do you meet the updated Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans for your age group? Please explain (with details) how you meet the updated guidelines. If not, explain changes you can make to be on your way to meet the recommendation and what are the benefit? 2. Is the bases of the NPR article in alignment with Section 9.2 of your textbook? Please provide one solid example comparing article vs textbook that you wish to address (your "ah-ha" moment) and explain. 3. Use the information in the video and everything you have learned about your diet and activity level, if you were to continue with your dietary and lifestyle pattern you recorded at the beginning of the semester, what would you expect or predict would happen to your health and weight status? Provide a specific example. Discussion Directions: In your initial post, conclude your post by signing your name. When you reply to your classmates, please type the name of the classmate you are responding to, type your thoughtful message to that person, and type your name at the bottom of the message. Make sure to use proper grammar, capitalization, (I instead of i) and punctuation in this college level course in all correspondence. Please avoid “text” or “twitter speak” when corresponding. Summary: *Your classmates responses will not be visible to you until you have submitted your own initial post. Grading: This assignment is worth 20 points. Grading will be based on timely responses, well developed, thoughtful, ability to apply information from textbook, iProfile, ability to apply information from articles/videos and nutrition, and effort toward getting to know your classmates.

1. The purpose of the Physical Activity Guideline is to inform the reader that implementing physical activity for a period of time depending on the reader's age is beneficial to the health for the individual. The guideline provides information as to why physical activity is important, in which the answer is it promotes good health and reduces the risks for chronic diseases. In my recent week, I have not been physically active because I had surgery and I needed time to heal; however, once I have appropriately healed I can go back to the gym.
